Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, has issued a circular dated 6 November 2026 regarding the submission of student applications and institutional recommendations for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Winter Internship Programme 2026–27 and Term Internship Programme 2027. In reference to the AICTE notification dated 2 November 2026, NHAI proposes to engage approximately 1,083 interns across 125 ongoing NHAI projects throughout India.
These internship programmes aim to provide eligible students with practical industry exposure, hands-on learning opportunities, and professional experience through their engagement with ongoing National Highway projects and related activities.
Details of NHAI Internship Programmes 2026–27
NHAI is offering two internship opportunities under this initiative:
- Winter Internship Programme 2026–27
- Duration: One month.
- Internship Period: December 2026 – January 2027.
- Opportunity: Practical exposure to ongoing NHAI projects and related activities.
- Term Internship Programme 2027
- Duration: Six months.
- Internship Period: January – June 2027.
- Opportunity: Extended industry exposure and practical learning through National Highway projects.
Important Dates and Deadlines
Students and AKTU-affiliated institutions must follow the prescribed application and recommendation schedule:
- Last Date for Student Applications: 10 November 2026.
- Last Date for Institutional Recommendations: 20 November 2026.
Students must submit their applications before the prescribed deadline. Institutions are responsible for reviewing applications and forwarding recommendations for eligible candidates within the specified timeline.

Important Instructions for AKTU-Affiliated Colleges
The circular requests affiliated and associated institutions to circulate the internship notification among eligible students, relevant departments, and faculty members. Institutions are also instructed to:
- Widely publicize the NHAI Winter and Term Internship Programmes.
- Encourage eligible students to submit applications within the prescribed deadline.
- Facilitate the student application process.
- Scrutinize submitted applications in a timely manner.
- Recommend eligible candidates through the prescribed portal.
- Ensure that institutional recommendations are submitted by 20 November 2026.
The AICTE communication also requests AICTE-approved higher education institutions, including institutions ranked among the top 200 in the NIRF rankings, to promote awareness and participation in these internship programmes.
